The large 12 inch vase lamps were the first glass lamps to be manufactured by the Aladdin Mantle Lamp Company in the Alexandria, Indiana glass plant. They used the oil font from the 1251 and 1252 floor lamps being manufactured at that time, and the glass vase itself was also used to make electric lamps.
They were very expensive lamps for that era selling for $11.50 without a shade which was considerable more expensive than the model 12 table lamps being sold at the time. They were however a quite colorful addition to and inventory that had consisted of metal lamps to this point. The 18, or 20, inch shades that adorned these lamps were quite unique as well offering some very colorful and artistic designs. For all their color and artistry sadly the cost of these large vase lamps put them out of reach of all but the more affluent people. This fact limited their sales and contributed greatly to making them some of the hardest Aladdin lamps for collectors to find.
